Building your own wallpaper source (API 3.2+)

Muzei itself is responsible for displaying wallpaper images, or Artwork, but even its builtin wallpaper sources are all built with the samecom.google.android.apps.muzei.api.provider.MuzeiArtProvider API, which makes it possiblefor any app to provide wallpapers to Muzei via just a few steps:

1. Add the following Maven coordinates as a dependency: com.google.android.apps.muzei:muzei-api:3.2.0 or higher.
2. Create a new provider that extends com.google.android.apps.muzei.api.provider.MuzeiArtProvider.
3. Add the corresponding <provider> tag to your AndroidManifest.xml file and add the required <intent-filter> and <meta-data> elements.

Once you have both Muzei and your custom source installed, you should be able to choose your sourcefrom the 'Sources' screen in Muzei.

Accessing current wallpaper information (API 2.0+)

You can access the current wallpaper on Android phones and tablets, or on Wear OS, while Muzei isthe active wallpaper.

1. Add the following Maven coordinates as a dependency: com.google.android.apps.muzei:muzei-api:2.+.
2. Use either com.google.android.apps.muzei.api.MuzeiContract.Artwork.getCurrentArtworkBitmap to get the current artwork as a bitmap, or access more information about the artwork by querying com.google.android.apps.muzei.api.MuzeiContract.Artwork.CONTENT_URI with a ContentResolver.

Muzei is a Live Wallpaper app for Android phones and tablets. There are thousands of live wallpaper appsavailable for Android, but this one is different.

Flickr is the go to place to find images of all kinds. And if you are a shutterbug, you probably are already a member. Flickr for Muzei can cycle through your uploads, tags, groups, users or your favorites. Relive the joy of a decade’s worth of photos with Flickr for Muzei, right on your homescreen.

8. 500px For Muzei

You might call 500px the hip man’s Flickr. No matter what you have to say about the community, the quality of content it aggregates is noteworthy. 500px for Muzei will cycle through the best of 500px.

9. Dropzei For Dropbox

If you are like me, you use Dropbox for everything. From building an epub library to saving all your photos to collecting the best wallpapers. Now, you can of course just use the Dropbox app and download the pictures you need, crop them appropriately and set them as wallpapers. But why go through all of that when Dropzei will take care of it for you.

10. Google Doodle – Muzei

Google Doodle – Muzei brings the wonderfully designed and often quirky Google Doodles to your homescreen. This will look great on your Google Now Launcher on your Nexus 5.
